LINDON, Utah – The world’s first virtual reality theme park has its headquarters in an unexpected location.
The Void has attractions in Dubai and New York City, but its headquarters are in Lindon, Utah.
Park founders said the experience blends a physical park with a simultaneous virtual reality experience of their choice. Guests are fitted with a VR headset and a vest that reacts to the world around them. They are then thrown into a 10-minute experience that they can both see, feel, and move in.
The Void programmed the games to sync with the built course so that all of the walls, doors, and furniture are really there for you to touch.
“It felt really real, I was screaming in real life,” said Tessa Curtin, a preview tester.
The Void teamed up with Sony Pictures in July 2016 to create a Ghostbusters experience for the release of the new movie. That helped The Void promote their new attraction in New York and Dubai. Executives said they hope to franchise their brand to expand the business all around the world, but for now, they’re happy to blow people’s minds in Utah.
Right now only the Ghostbusters experience is available, but executives said more experiences will be available soon. Tickets are available for $25 at thevoid.com.
