PROVO, UT – Provo residents gathered together on Memorial Day weekend for the 7th annual Pacifika festival to celebrate the prominent Polynesian culture present in the community.
While the event’s purpose was to preserve and portray Polynesian culture, it also served as an opportunity for shoppers to purchase cultural goods.
Vendors lined Center Street on Friday and Saturday, selling Polynesian food, drink, and clothing. The vendors stated that cultural events like Pacifika help promote their restaurants and clothing lines to Utah residents.
The festival’s organizers said that the event helps to hilight Provo’s minorities, and is a great way to teach about different cultures.
