OREM – Thousands came together last weekend for the final event of Orem’s 50th annual Summerfest, the 70th annual Grand Parade.
A police motorcade led the way with the Utah National Guard marching right behind, and featured both the Orem and Timpanogos High School marching bands. Local businesses showed off their floats, and even Smokey the Bear rode by.
The city awarded “Best of Parade” to Utah County Credit Union for bringing a two-headed dragon to the show.
Lou Chatterly has lived on the corner of 400 South since 1980, and says his street used to be quiet, but now the parade starts on his corner every single year. Chatterly says his favorite part is the big trucks and loud horns.
Chatterly says from what he’s seen over the years, the parade is becoming more coordinated.
